FREE CODING LESSONS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE every Saturday morning from 10.00-12.00 (Donations Welcome)

Glanmire Area Community Association (GACA) are excited to announce the first CoderDojo in Glanmire will held on Saturdays starting the 8th September from 10am-12pm.

As the GACA Glanmire Area Community Association is a ‘not for profit’ organisation/a limited company without a share capital, there is a nominal charge of €10 each week to cover light & heating costs. Parents have overcome this fee by having a donations box

CoderDojo’s are free learning spaces for young people aged 7-17 to come and learn how to programme and create software and applications or apps for short for computers and mobile devices.

Dojos are a place to develop other skills such as showing others how to use certain software and IT related ware as well as how to code.

Dojos can organise tours of technology companies, bring in guest speakers to talk about their career and what they do, and organise events. In addition to learning to code, members meet like minded people, show off what they’ve been working on and so on.
CoderDojo makes development and learning to code a fun, sociable, kick ass experience. CoderDojo also puts a strong emphasis on open source and free software, and has a strong network of members and volunteers globally.
For Our local Dojo we Need Help!

Sponsor, volunteer and/or mentor! Teach kids and help out with the running of the session. We are seeking additional mentors to build up a roster so please let us know if you have any programming experience at all, along with availability. All mentors will be requested to undergo Garda Clearance.

Donate old laptops, USB sticks, equipment and a projector screen would be useful – Share resources, if you have access to cool things like Mac Labs that Dojo members could avail of, please offer them.

Children (U13) must be accompanied with a parent or guardian during the dojo and experience has shown us that this has become a special quality time for others. Teenagers are allowed to attend alone.

History
Coderdojo was setup just over a year ago by James Whelton and Bill Liao in Cork and has numerous sites around the country and abroad. Further details on www.coderdojo.com Recent dojos have included Dail Eireann!
