Heritage Society

Glanmire Heritage Society was set up in 1984 to promote and preserve the history and heritage of the Riverstown / Glanmire area. Meetings are held monthly in the Community Centre. Projects undertaken to date include:

  • Cork 800 event
  • Bicentenary of the Church of Ireland Church of St. Mary & St. Anne
  • Pageant to mark the 150th anniversary of St. Joseph’s Church, Springhill
  • Commemoration of the centenary of the former Riverstown National School (now the Community Centre)
  • Pageant entitled ‘The 32 Counties of Ireland’
  • Commemoration of 1798 entitled ‘The Rising of the Moon’
  • Photographic Exhibitions, Talks and Slide Shows
  • Book of old photographs entitled ‘Glanmire and Environs – People, Places, Pastimes’
  • Heritage Quiz and Children’s Christmas Quiz
  • Glanmire Christmas Cards and Christmas Calendar
